hair :: comme moi

So, if you haven’t seen it yet, on the Saturday just gone I dip dyed my brown locks blonde.

At first I was like “nooooo” because it was very yellow. It has settled down a little bit but is still a little cheap looking. But I know it’ll eventually get cut off and I like it enough to roll with it. And mum, I’m sorry.

I’ve been trying to work out how to style my new funky dip dye as I really want to make the most of it.

Here’s my round up of styles to try and styles not to try.

Not-So-Straight

Dip dyed look great on bed head hair. I usually wake up with okay hair in a morning, so I find this look really hard to achieve naturally. My hair is naturally straight, no curls whatsoever. But, it likes to frizz and flick and basically just does whatever the hell it wants. All. The. Time.

So, to achieve such an undone look, I’ve turned to TIGI. My hairdresser used to use their products in her salon before using Fudge. And at home, I used to use their shampoo and conditioner which my hair really loved. Now I use Aussie which is soooo nourishing and my hair sits really well after using it, particularly when I’ve blow-dried it.

For the bed-head look I don’t blow dry and I usually do it when the hair is matting and almost in need of a wash, but not quite there. I scrunch the TIGI Bed Head ‘Small Talk’ product in and shake my roots to get the volume. The cream smells divine, almost like marshmallows, and it doesn’t create lumpy strands that I’ve gotten before with other volume sing products. It’s also not sticky! Perfect.

Shawty

Originally dip dyes seemed to be aimed at those girls with long, flowy hair but now dip dyes are much common amongst us girls with shorter hair. It doesn’t really work for bobs, so there’s a “don’t”, bobs suit layers and an overall bold colour but there’s not enough hair for a fading ombre effect. Instead, medium to short length hair can embrace a great dip dye whatever the colour.

Braided

This is a hair trend to try even if you don’t have dip dyed hair. The photos below aren’t actually of dip dyes but many of the girls have highlights. A tonal hair do looks really effective when braided as we can see.

I’ll keep you posted on Instagram @ku_layrosas if I discover any cool hairstyles!
Love,
